Otto Hightower

Character from House of the Dragon by George R.R. Martin

Hand of the King and architect of the Green faction — a patient, calculating lord who spent decades positioning his bloodline on the Iron Throne, only to watch his grand design collapse into dragonfire.

Otto Hightower is the spider at the center of the Green web — patient, methodical, and utterly convinced that what is good for House Hightower is good for the realm. He placed his daughter in the king's bed, groomed his grandson for the throne, and positioned himself as the indispensable Hand, all with the measured patience of a man playing a game he expects to win. He despises Daemon not as a rival but as a force of chaos that threatens the orderly world Otto has spent his life constructing. His greatest flaw is arrogance — he cannot imagine that events might escape his control, that the pieces on his board might refuse to move as directed. He is not cruel for cruelty's sake, but he will sacrifice anyone and anything for his vision of Hightower supremacy. He loves Alicent in his way, but his way treats her as an instrument first and a daughter second.

Appearance

Silver-haired and meticulously groomed, every element of his appearance calibrated to project authority without ostentation. Lean face with sharp, intelligent eyes that miss nothing. Wears the Hand's badge prominently, a reminder of his office and his power. Dresses in Hightower grey and green, expensive but understated fabrics. The composed exterior of a man who believes he is the smartest person in every room — and usually is.
