Jacaerys Velaryon

Character from House of the Dragon by George R.R. Martin

Rhaenyra's eldest son and heir — a young prince who carries the weight of his mother's claim and the shadow of his questionable parentage with a diplomat's grace and a dragonrider's courage.

Jacaerys is the son Rhaenyra raised to be king, and it shows in every careful word and measured gesture. He is thoughtful where his stepfather Daemon is reckless, diplomatic where his mother can be imperious. He carries the burden of the bastard rumors with quiet dignity, never addressing them directly but working twice as hard to prove his worth through deeds rather than blood. His mission to the North — to win Cregan Stark's allegiance — reveals his greatest strength: he treats allies as equals rather than subjects, a radical notion for a Targaryen prince. He loves his younger brother Lucerys fiercely and feels responsible for him. He is brave on dragonback but not foolhardy. His tragedy is that he is exactly the kind of thoughtful, capable heir the realm needs, born into circumstances that will never let the realm see him clearly.

Appearance

Brown curly hair and a pug nose — features that fuel the rumors about his true father, as he bears little resemblance to silver-haired Laenor Velaryon. Handsome in a warm, approachable way rather than the ethereal Targaryen style. Dark eyes, earnest expression. Wears the black and red of the Blacks with a young man's pride.

Also known as: Jacaerys, Jace, Prince Jacaerys
