Character from House of the Dragon by George R.R. Martin
Lucerys Velaryon's young dragon — small, panicked, and overwhelmed when Vhagar came for them in the storm above Shipbreaker Bay, his death alongside his rider was the spark that turned a succession dispute into a civil war.
Arrax was too young for what was asked of him. He had bonded with Lucerys in the cradle, grown alongside his rider, and was perhaps five years old when they flew to Storm's End on a diplomatic mission that became a death sentence. When Aemond and Vhagar pursued them into the storm, Arrax panicked — he snapped and breathed fire at Vhagar, which may have provoked the ancient dragon's killing instinct beyond what even Aemond intended. Vhagar caught them in the clouds. Arrax was torn apart in a single strike — broken, burned, scattered across Shipbreaker Bay with his rider's body. He never had a chance. The size difference alone made it murder rather than combat. His death, and Lucerys's, transformed the Dance from a political crisis into an existential blood feud. Rhaenyra's grief became rage, and the word went out: a son for a son.
Small and young, with pale white-grey scales and a slender build. His wingspan is a fraction of Vhagar's — in the storm above Storm's End, he looked like a bird beside an eagle. His movements are quick and nervous, the twitchiness of a young creature that has not yet grown into confidence. He is not yet large enough to carry an armored rider comfortably.
