Black Egg Temple

Location from Hollow Knight by Team Cherry

The sealed prison at Hallownest's heart — where the Hollow Knight is chained, the Dreamers' masks watch, and the fate of the kingdom waits to be decided.

The Black Egg Temple is where Hallownest made its last stand against the Radiance. Three Dreamers entered eternal sleep to seal the Black Egg. Inside, the Hollow Knight contains the Radiance. The seal was meant to be permanent. It is failing. The player must break the three Dreamer seals to enter — killing three sleeping people to open a prison. The moral weight of this is left entirely to the player. The game doesn't tell you whether breaking the seals is the right thing to do. Monomon seems to have wanted it. Lurien would not have. Herrah's bargain was for a child, not a philosophy. Inside, the final encounter begins: the Hollow Knight, chained and suffering, fighting you with a body that keeps stabbing itself. The endings diverge here — replace the Hollow Knight as the seal, or use the Void Heart to enter the dream and confront the Radiance directly.

Appearance

A temple built from (or around) an enormous black egg-shaped stone. Three masks adorn its surface — Lurien's, Monomon's, and Herrah's. The interior is dark, ritualistic, with chains leading inward. The Hollow Knight is chained at the center, the Radiance's orange light leaking through cracks in its shell. The atmosphere is heavy with the weight of something that was supposed to last forever and didn't.
