The deep, dark ground floor of Hallownest — palace ruins above, the Abyss below, and something very old sleeping in between.
The Ancient Basin is the transitional zone between Hallownest's civilized layers and the primordial Abyss below. It's where the Pale King's domain met the Void — the physical boundary between order and the formless dark. The Broken Vessel boss (an infected Vessel sibling) is found here, along with the entrance to the White Palace via Dream Nail. The Abyss Door at the basin's lowest point leads down into the birthplace of the Vessels. The area feels like the bottom of something — architecturally, narratively, and emotionally.
Dark stone caverns far below the City of Tears. Muted palette of dark blues and greys. Ruined infrastructure — collapsed buildings, ancient machinery. The Pale King's palace grounds once extended here; remnants of royal architecture peek through the rock. A Kingsmould (Void construct) stands guard near the entrance to the vanished White Palace. Water drips. The air feels pressurized.
