Location from Hollow Knight by Team Cherry
The lowest point in Hallownest — a sea of liquid Void and a floor carpeted with the shells of hundreds of discarded Vessels, all the children who weren't chosen.
The Abyss is the game's most uncomfortable space. It is where the Pale King and the White Lady produced hundreds of Vessels — children made from their union, filled with Void, and tested for the quality of emptiness. The ones that weren't empty enough were discarded here. Their shells cover the ground like fallen leaves. The Knight was born here. The Hollow Knight was chosen here. Every shell on the floor is a sibling. The scene where the Knight descends into the mass of shells and they begin to stir — reaching upward, grasping — is one of the most haunting images in gaming. The lighthouse on the shore keeps the Void sea at bay. The Void Heart is obtained here — the charm that unifies Void under a single will and transforms the Knight from a wandering vessel into the Lord of Shades, capable of consuming the Radiance. The Pale King sealed the Abyss. The King's Brand unseals it. What waits inside has been waiting a very long time.
Absolute darkness relieved only by the faint pale glow of dead Vessel shells. The floor is not floor — it's a mass grave. Hundreds of small, pale shells identical to the Knight's litter the ground, piled deep. Below them, a sea of liquid Void stretches to the horizon. A lone lighthouse stands on the shore, its light cutting through the dark. The western wall has a shrine with screaming faces carved into the rock. The sense of scale and silence is devastating.
