Item from Hollow Knight by Team Cherry
The primordial darkness beneath everything — the substance of the Abyss, the stuff Vessels are made of, and the only force that can extinguish the Radiance's light.
Void is older than the gods. It existed in the Abyss before the Pale King arrived, before the Radiance, before Hallownest. It is not evil — it is absence. It is what was there before anything was there. The Pale King recognized its potential: a substance so fundamentally opposed to light that it could contain the Radiance. The Vessels are shells filled with Void. The Knight's shade is Void. The Collector is Void given personality. The Kingsmoulds are Void given purpose. Void is the raw material the Pale King weaponized against the Radiance — and the irony is that a being of light (the Pale King was a Wyrm, radiant in his own way) used darkness to fight another being of light. The Void Heart unifies all Void under the Knight's will. The Shade Lord — the Knight's ultimate form — is Void concentrated and directed. It consumes the Radiance in the Godmaster ending. Light and dark. Dream and void. The cosmic duality resolves in extinction.
Pure black — liquid in the Abyss, solid in Vessel shells, gaseous as the shade that appears when the Knight dies. It moves like living ink. In the Shade Lord form, Void becomes enormous: a many-eyed entity of absolute darkness that dwarfs the Radiance. It is the visual and metaphysical opposite of light in every way.
