The Soul Master believed he could cure the Infection through the study and concentration of Soul — the life energy that all bugs carry. His methods required extracting Soul from living subjects, killing them in the process. The Soul Sanctum is full of their shells. He was a scholar who became a monster through the logic of 'the ends justify the means.' Every dead bug was a necessary sacrifice for the cure that was always almost within reach. The Infection got him anyway. His dream form — Soul Tyrant — reveals the desperate, raving mind beneath the composed exterior: a man who destroyed everything he was trying to save.

His 'defeat' reveals a second phase — Soul Tyrant — where his dream form is even more erratic and powerful. The Soul Sanctum around him is littered with the emptied shells of his test subjects.
