Character from Hollow Knight by Team Cherry
The god who built a civilization for bugs, fathered hundreds of children to use as containers, and loved exactly one of them — which destroyed everything.
The Pale King speaks — in lore tablets, in the memories of those who served him — with the absolute certainty of someone who has foreseen the future and decided to bear the cost alone. 'No cost too great. No mind to think. No will to break. No voice to cry suffering.' These are his words. They are instructions for making a child into a weapon. He arrived in Hallownest as an ancient Wyrm, shed his shell, and took a smaller form. He gave bugs sapience — individual minds, language, civilization. He built the Stagways, the City of Tears, the White Palace. He was worshipped as a god because he functioned as one. But his gift of consciousness came at the cost of the Radiance's dream — and when the old light fought back, the Pale King's response was to create something empty enough to contain it. The Vessel program is his greatest achievement and his greatest crime. Hundreds of children, born of his union with the White Lady, cast into the Abyss and filled with Void. Most were discarded. The one he chose — the Hollow Knight — he raised, trained, and then sealed away forever. But he loved it. That's the tragedy. The man who decreed 'no mind to think' couldn't follow his own instructions. He vanished along with the White Palace when the seal began to fail. Whether he fled, was consumed, or chose to disappear is one of the game's unanswered questions. His corpse sits on the dream-throne, and the kingdom he built is rotting.
Small for a higher being — not much larger than Hornet. Gleaming pale white shell with an elaborate, many-pronged crown of horns. Radiant, regal, otherworldly. His original form was the Wyrm — an enormous pale serpent whose shed shell still lies in Kingdom's Edge, large enough to be a landmark. In death, he sits on his throne in the Dream Realm's White Palace, diminished and still.
