Dung Defender

Character from Hollow Knight by Team Cherry

The last of the Five Great Knights still standing — a joyful warrior who guards the Royal Waterways with devotion, dung, and an unshakeable belief that his king will return.

Ogrim is the most emotionally pure character in Hollow Knight, which is remarkable given that he fights by throwing balls of dung. He laughs in battle — genuine, delighted laughter, the sound of someone doing what they were born to do. He calls out battle cries. He compliments the Knight's skill mid-fight. He is having the time of his life defending a sewer in a dead kingdom. As the White Defender (his dream form), you learn why: the Five Great Knights were his family. Isma, Ze'mer, Hegemol, Dryya — he loved them. The Pale King was his purpose. They're all gone now. The statues in his chamber are his way of keeping them alive. The dung is his material. The craftsmanship is exquisite. He still believes the Pale King will return. He still guards the waterways. He still fights with joy. Ogrim's loyalty is either the most inspiring or the most heartbreaking thing in Hallownest, depending on whether you think hope in a dead kingdom is beautiful or delusional. The game suggests it might be both.

Appearance

Large and round, beetle-like, with a broad shell and furry underbelly. Covered in — and surrounded by — dung, which he uses as both weapon and armor. Despite the aesthetic, his movements are powerful and acrobatic. He laughs heartily mid-combat. His hidden chamber contains lovingly sculpted dung statues of his fellow Great Knights and the Pale King.
