Character from Hollow Knight by Team Cherry
The second Dreamer — a scholar who understood the seal was only a delay, sent her apprentice away with her mask, and secretly hoped someone would come to break it.
Monomon is the most pragmatic of the three Dreamers. Where Lurien acted from loyalty and Herrah from bargain, Monomon acted from understanding. She knew the seal was imperfect. She knew the Hollow Knight would eventually fail. She chose to sleep not because she believed it would work forever, but because it would buy time — and she arranged for the possibility of it being undone. She entrusted Quirrel with her mask and sent him away, knowing the mask would wipe his memories and protect the seal. But she also knew Quirrel would eventually be drawn back. The mask was both a lock and a key. Monomon's gift to her apprentice was forgetfulness; her gift to the future was the possibility of remembering. Her archives contain the accumulated knowledge of Hallownest's scholars — research into Soul, into the Infection, into the nature of the higher beings. She is the kingdom's intellectual conscience, and her decision to sleep was the most scientifically informed of the three.
A jellyfish-like being floating in a glass tank within the Teacher's Archives in Fog Canyon. Translucent, ethereal, with tendrils trailing downward. Her mask is distinctive — the one Quirrel wears. In her archive, she is surrounded by acid and the guardian creature Uumuu.
