Mantis Lords

Character from Hollow Knight by Team Cherry

The three warrior-queens of the Mantis Tribe — the only faction in Hallownest that resisted the Infection through pure discipline and refused to bow to anyone.

The Mantis Lords represent something rare in Hallownest: a society that survived. While the rest of the kingdom fell to Infection, the Mantis Tribe resisted through martial discipline, isolationism, and sheer refusal to submit. They rejected the Pale King's full authority. They rejected the Infection. They maintained their own culture, their own hierarchy, their own honor code. They do not speak. They fight. Defeat them and they bow — a mark of respect that opens the path to Deepnest and turns every mantis in their territory from hostile to saluting. They acknowledge strength, and acknowledgment IS conversation in mantis culture. Their dream forms — the Sisters of Battle — fight with even greater ferocity and coordination. They are one of the most beloved boss fights in the game because they are pure: no tricks, no gimmicks, just three warriors testing whether you deserve their respect.

Appearance

Three tall, slender mantis warriors with blade-like forearms and regal bearing. They fight in precise, synchronized patterns — one at first, then all three together. Their throne room in the Fungal Wastes is pristine and orderly, a stark contrast to the chaos above. They sit motionless until challenged, then explode into coordinated violence.
