Herrah the Beast

Character from Hollow Knight by Team Cherry

The third Dreamer — queen of Deepnest, who traded eternal sleep for a daughter sired by the Pale King, and whose bargain gave Hallownest both a seal and a protector.

Herrah's deal was the most transactional of the three: she would sleep to seal the Hollow Knight, and in exchange, the Pale King would father her a child. That child was Hornet. Herrah wanted an heir with the blood of a higher being — a daughter who would carry both the wildness of Deepnest and the power of the Wyrm. She was queen of Deepnest's spider tribes, a ruler who commanded through strength and cunning. Her domain is the most hostile region in Hallownest — a tangled nightmare of webs and darkness that resists even the Pale King's influence. That she agreed to cooperate at all speaks to either the severity of the Infection threat or the depth of her desire for a child. Perhaps both. Her legacy is Hornet. Everything Hornet is — the protectiveness, the fierce independence, the willingness to bear impossible costs — comes from a mother who chose to sleep forever so her daughter could live.

Appearance

A large spider-like being resting on a silk bed in the heart of Deepnest. Dark-shelled with multiple legs, regal even in sleep. Her chamber is web-draped and guarded by the creatures of the deep. Her mask — one of the three on the Black Egg — has a distinctly arachnid quality.
