Arnold's personal room is on the top floor under a skylight, furnished with beanbag chairs, a record player, and a rooftop terrace garden accessible through a hatch. The boarding house receives guests, hosts arguments, shelters people who need it, and functions as a kind of neighborhood social node — people drift in and out in ways that wouldn't make sense in a more formal household.
