The Pigeon Man is one of the neighborhood's most compelling mysteries — a figure whispered about by kids as a monster or a madman, who turns out to be simply a deeply private man who withdrew from a world that hurt him and found peace among creatures that ask nothing of him. He tends his pigeon loft with devotion and has an intimate knowledge of the birds that borders on communion. His encounter with Arnold is one of the most emotionally resonant in the series.
