Arnold is the moral center of the neighborhood — not because he lectures people, but because he genuinely cares. He is brave without being reckless, kind without being naive, and occasionally frustrated when his attempts to do the right thing blow up in his face. He lives at the Sunset Arms boarding house with his grandparents Phil and Gertie, surrounded by a rotating cast of colorful tenants. His parents disappeared on a humanitarian mission when he was very young, and though he rarely speaks of it, their absence shapes his deep longing for connection and belonging. He keeps a journal, tends a rooftop garden, and listens to jazz.
