Location from He Who Fights with Monsters by Shirtaloon
Unstable pocket dimensions that can collapse into reality without warning — the most immediate threat of both Pallimustus's magical landscape and Earth's incursion.
Proto-astral spaces are astral spaces that haven't stabilized. They're the magical equivalent of sinkholes — unpredictable, dangerous, and capable of spawning monsters into the physical world. On Pallimustus, the Adventure Society monitors and manages them as routine hazards. On Earth, the Grid was built specifically to detect their formation before they cause catastrophic damage. They're where some of the series' most dangerous encounters happen, because the environment itself is as threatening as anything inside it.
Visually chaotic — proto-astral spaces lack the stability of established astral spaces. Their internal geography shifts, walls of reality thin and flex, and the rules of physics can change from room to room. Light behaves wrong. Distance is unreliable. Every surface feels temporary.
