The Old City is where Greenstone's common people live and where its criminals thrive. The Big Three crime lords — including Adris Dorgan (Elspeth Arella's father) — maintain order through a balance of terror and mutual benefit. Sophie Wexler fought in the Fortress pits here. Jory Tillman runs a clinic. The music hall provides the only entertainment that doesn't require rank or money. It smells like too many people in too little space, with undertones of whatever the nearest food vendor is cooking and whatever the nearest alley is hiding. For all its grime, the Old City has a fierce loyalty — people here look out for each other because nobody else will.
Narrow, layered streets built over centuries of construction — each generation building on top of the last. Architecture is practical and worn, nothing like the Island's institutional grandeur. Dark alleys, crowded markets, and the Fortress fighting arena define the visual landscape.
