Landemere was marginalized within the blood cult because of his veneration of the Builder — worshipping a Great Astral Being didn't sit well with his fellow cultists. His summoning ritual was what pulled Jason from Earth to Pallimustus, making him inadvertently responsible for everything that followed. He was also the first person Jason killed, establishing early that this story doesn't shy away from lethal consequences. His significance is less about who he was and more about what he set in motion.
