Slytherin Dungeon

Location from Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling

The common room and dormitories of Slytherin House, located beneath the Black Lake with an eerie green-tinged light filtering through the water and stone walls carved with silver serpents.

The Slytherin common room is beautiful in a cold, unsettling way — like an underwater cathedral built by people who valued power over comfort. The green light from the lake gives everything an aquatic pallor, and the silence is heavier here than anywhere else in the castle. Sound doesn't carry well through stone and water. Ambition practically seeps from the walls; this is where Tom Riddle sat as a student, where Draco Malfoy held court, where generations of pure-blood families sent their children to learn that cunning matters more than courage. The room rewards those who earn their place in it and punishes those who show weakness. It smells of lake water, old stone, and expensive things.

Appearance

A long, low underground room extending beneath the Black Lake, its ceiling and walls rough-hewn stone. Greenish light filters through tall windows that look directly into the lake's murky depths — occasionally a giant squid tentacle drifts past. Elaborately carved silver serpents twine around pillars and mantelpieces. Dark leather sofas and high-backed chairs cluster around a grand fireplace with a green-flamed fire. Skulls and dark artifacts sit in glass cases along the walls.
