Quidditch Pitch

Location from Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling

The oval Quidditch field on the Hogwarts grounds, ringed by towered stands and featuring three golden hooped goalposts at each end where house teams compete in the wizarding world's most popular sport.

The Quidditch pitch is the emotional heart of Hogwarts rivalries. House matches draw the entire school and half the staff, with McGonagall screaming louder than any student when Gryffindor scores. Lee Jordan's commentary is legendary for its bias. The pitch has seen Harry catch the Snitch in his mouth during his first game, Malfoy buy his way onto the Slytherin team with Nimbus 2001s, Ron's disastrous early performances, and Ginny Weasley's bat-bogey hexes on particularly aggressive opponents. Dementors invaded a match in third year. The pitch was converted into the Triwizard maze in fourth year, much to Oliver Wood's retroactive horror.

Appearance

A large oval grass field surrounded by towering wooden stands draped in house colors during matches. Three golden hooped goalposts of varying heights stand at each end. A commentary box perches at the top of the highest stand. The pitch is smooth and well-maintained, ringed by a low fence. During games the stands overflow with students, staff, and visiting spectators. Bludgers, Quaffles, and a Golden Snitch are released from a wooden crate at center field.
