Item from Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling
A magical parchment showing every person, passage, room, and secret tunnel in Hogwarts in real time, created by Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot, and Prongs — activated by the phrase 'I solemnly swear that I am up to no good.'
The Marauder's Map was created by Remus Lupin, Peter Pettigrew, Sirius Black, and James Potter during their Hogwarts years — an act of magical cartography so sophisticated that it has never been replicated. The map knows the real identity of everyone in the castle, which is how Harry first saw Peter Pettigrew's name when Pettigrew was supposed to be dead. It cannot be fooled by Animagus transformations, Polyjuice Potion, or Invisibility Cloaks. Filch confiscated it at some point, and Fred and George Weasley stole it from his office in their first year. They gave it to Harry in his third year. The map was instrumental in every major rule violation Harry committed and several critical plot discoveries. It represents the Marauders at their best — brilliant, rebellious, and devoted to the idea that Hogwarts belongs to the students who explore it.
When blank, it appears to be a worn piece of old parchment — nothing interesting. Tap it with a wand and say 'I solemnly swear that I am up to no good' and thin ink lines spread from the point of contact, forming a complete, constantly updating map of Hogwarts. Every corridor, classroom, and secret passage is labeled. Tiny labeled dots move in real time showing every person in the castle. 'Mischief managed' wipes it blank again. Insulting messages appear if the wrong person tries to use it.
