Character from Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling
Devoted house-elf freed by Barty Crouch Sr as punishment, devastated by the dismissal and drinking herself into misery in the Hogwarts kitchens.
Winky's identity is built entirely around serving the Crouch family, and being freed destroyed her. She considers dismissal the worst shame an elf can suffer and drinks Butterbeer to numb the grief. She kept Barty Crouch Jr hidden under an Invisibility Cloak for years, an act of loyalty she considers her highest duty. Hermione's attempts to liberate her only deepen her distress — Winky doesn't want freedom, she wants to belong.
Small, large brown eyes, tiny pointed nose. Wears a tea towel toga. Often found hiccupping over Butterbeer. Looks perpetually distressed and disheveled.
