Moaning Myrtle

Character from Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling

Weepy teenage ghost who haunts the second-floor girls' bathroom where she was killed by the Basilisk, eternally wallowing in the misery of her death and social rejection.

Myrtle is trapped in the worst moment of her adolescence for eternity — bullied, lonely, and killed in a bathroom. She wails, floods the bathroom when upset, and pesters anyone who visits. But she also helped Harry with the Triwizard egg, watched the Chamber of Secrets entrance for decades, and has genuine knowledge she shares when someone is kind enough to listen. Her misery is real and earned, even when it's exhausting.

Appearance

Mousy brown hair, round glasses, translucent. Perpetually sulky expression. Floats above toilet stalls. Pimples still visible in death.

Also known as: Myrtle, Moaning Myrtle, Myrtle Warren
