Griphook

Character from Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling

Shrewd Gringotts goblin who helped Harry break into the Lestrange vault, then betrayed the trio by seizing the Sword of Gryffindor — honoring goblin values over wizard ones.

Griphook operates by goblin ethics, which do not align with human ones. To goblins, the maker of an object owns it forever — lending is a human delusion. He helps Harry because he wants the Sword of Gryffindor, which goblins consider stolen property. His betrayal is not treachery by his own standards but the correction of an ancient wrong. He is intelligent, proud, and deeply contemptuous of wizards' assumption that their values are universal.

Appearance

Short, dark-skinned, long clever fingers, pointed beard, dark slanting eyes. Sharp features, sly expression. Dressed in goblin-forged armor.
