The oval Quidditch field where Harry falls off his broom during a storm when Dementors invade the match, loses his Nimbus 2001 to the Whomping Willow, and later wins the Cup on the Firebolt.
The Quidditch pitch is the site of Harry's worst on-pitch experience and his best. During the match against Hufflepuff in a raging storm, Dementors swarm the pitch and Harry faints at altitude, falling fifty feet before Dumbledore slows his descent. His Nimbus 2001 blows into the Whomping Willow and is smashed to splinters. Cedric Diggory catches the Snitch and tries to call for a rematch — his fundamental decency on display. Later, riding the Firebolt, Harry plays the match against Slytherin. Malfoy, Crabbe, and Goyle dress as Dementors to scare him, and Harry blasts them with a Patronus before realizing they're not real Dementors — just Slytherins in cloaks. He catches the Snitch and Gryffindor wins the Quidditch Cup for the first time in years. Oliver Wood weeps with joy.
A large oval grass field surrounded by towering wooden stands draped in house colors during matches. Three golden hooped goalposts of varying heights stand at each end. Rain lashes the pitch during the Hufflepuff match. Lightning cracks. A hundred Dementors glide onto the field from below.
