Hogwarts Library

Location from harry-potter-prisoner-of-azkaban by

A vast library of thousands of magical books, where Hermione researches Buckbeak's legal defense with desperate thoroughness while Ron and Harry barely help.

The Hogwarts Library is Hermione's natural habitat, and this year she practically lives here — researching Hippogriff attack precedents for Buckbeak's case, studying for her impossible number of classes, and looking up anything related to Sirius Black's case. She hauls armfuls of books to every spare surface and leaves tabs in volumes that are taller than her head. The library is also where students research Lupin's werewolf essay assignment from Snape — though most don't connect the dots the way Hermione does. The Restricted Section contains texts that would be relevant to understanding Dementors and Patronus theory, though Harry learns those from Lupin directly.

Appearance

Thousands of shelves in towering rows, lit by lamps on each table. The Restricted Section is behind a rope at the back, its books occasionally moaning or snapping. Reading tables and chairs fill the central space. Madam Pince patrols like a vulture, pouncing on anyone who mistreats a book.
