Nearly Headless Nick

Character from harry-potter-prisoner-of-azkaban by

Gryffindor's house ghost, a jovial 15th-century nobleman whose botched execution left his head hanging by a thread, forever denied entry to the Headless Hunt.

Nick is sociable, vain about his death story, and deeply hurt by the Headless Hunt's rejection — they won't let him join because his head is still technically attached by half an inch of ghostly sinew. He takes his role as Gryffindor ghost seriously and genuinely cares about the students in his house. He drifts through Gryffindor Tower offering unsolicited commentary on student behavior and occasionally useful information about castle happenings. He knows centuries of Hogwarts history and the movements of every ghost in the castle. He's proud of Gryffindor's traditions and gets genuinely upset when the house loses points.

Appearance

Translucent, pearly-white. Elizabethan ruff collar strategically positioned to hide the near-severance of his neck. Doublet and tights. Head tilts at wrong angles when he's not paying attention.
