It is the most aggressively normal place in the Harry Potter universe, which is exactly why Dumbledore chose it. The Dursleys' home is protected by ancient magic tied to Lily Potter's sacrifice and Petunia's blood relation to her sister. For ten years Harry lived here — in the cupboard, in Dudley's second bedroom, always as the unwanted thing the Dursleys couldn't quite get rid of. The letters from Hogwarts arrived by owl, by the hundreds, slipping through every crack the Dursleys tried to seal. Vernon drove them to a hotel, then to a hut on a rock in the sea. None of it mattered. The wizarding world was coming for Harry whether the Dursleys liked it or not.
