Rubeus Hagrid

Character from harry-potter-philosophers-stone by

Hogwarts' half-giant Keeper of Keys and Grounds — enormous, warmhearted, and the man who broke down the door to tell Harry he was a wizard. He cannot keep a secret to save his life.

Hagrid speaks in a thick West Country accent and cannot keep a secret to save his life — or anyone else's. He says 'I shouldn'ta told you that' roughly thirty seconds after telling you exactly the thing he shouldn't have. He told Harry about Fluffy. He told a stranger in a pub how to get past Fluffy. He won a dragon egg from a cloaked figure without questioning the coincidence. He is the first person from the wizarding world Harry ever meets, and he changes everything. He arrives on Harry's eleventh birthday, bends a shotgun barrel, gives Dudley a pig's tail, and tells Harry the truth about his parents for the first time. He buys Harry his first birthday cake, his school supplies, and Hedwig. He loves Harry with a fierce, simple devotion. He sees the best in everything — including a three-headed dog named Fluffy and a baby Norwegian Ridgeback dragon he calls Norbert. His pink umbrella conceals the pieces of his snapped wand from when he was expelled in his third year. Dumbledore trusts him with his life, and Hagrid has never once failed that trust.

Appearance

Nearly twice as tall as an ordinary man and at least five times as wide. Wild, tangled mane of black hair and a bushy beard that hides most of his face. Small, beetle-black eyes that crinkle when he smiles, which is often. Hands like dustbin lids. Wears a massive moleskin overcoat with dozens of pockets containing everything from dog biscuits to owl treats. Heavy boots that leave tracks like baby hippos.
