The wizarding world's main hospital -- where Arthur Weasley recovers from Nagini's bite, where Lockhart still signs autographs for no one, and where Neville's secret about his parents is finally revealed.
St Mungo's is where two storylines collide at Christmas. Harry, Ron, Hermione, and Ginny are visiting Arthur in the spell-damage ward when they encounter Neville and his grandmother leaving the Janus Thickey Ward. The awkward silence when Neville realizes they've seen his parents -- Frank and Alice in their hospital robes, vacant-eyed, Alice pressing a gum wrapper into Neville's hand -- is one of the most painful moments in the series. Neville's grandmother tells Harry that Frank and Alice gave their sanity for the cause. Neville looks at the floor. He puts the wrapper in his pocket. Nobody ever brings it up again, because some kindnesses are expressed through silence.
Accessed by speaking to a dummy in the window of a boarded-up Muggle department store. Inside: reception area opening into wards organized by ailment. Healers in lime-green robes. The Janus Thickey Ward -- the closed, long-term ward -- houses those who will never leave.
