The all-wizarding village near Hogwarts -- this year the site of the Hog's Head meeting where Dumbledore's Army is founded, and Harry's disastrous Valentine's date with Cho Chang at Madam Puddifoot's.
The founding meeting of Dumbledore's Army takes place in the Hog's Head -- the disreputable pub run by Dumbledore's brother Aberforth, chosen because it's always empty enough for a private conversation. Twenty-eight students show up to hear Harry talk about fighting Voldemort, and despite Harry's protests that he's not a hero, they sign up. Hogsmeade also hosts Harry's first date -- a catastrophic Valentine's visit to Madam Puddifoot's Tea Shop with Cho Chang. The shop is decorated with pink cherubs and confetti, Cho cries about Cedric, Harry mentions Hermione, and the whole thing ends with Harry alone in the snow wondering what just happened. It is, by any measure, the most realistic first date in fantasy literature.
A picturesque village of thatched-roof cottages and small shops. The Three Broomsticks, Honeydukes, Zonko's, the Hog's Head, Madam Puddifoot's Tea Shop with its pink decor and floating cherubs. Snow-dusted in winter, crowded with students on weekends.
