The Gryffindor common room and dormitories -- this year the site of Harry and Seamus's argument, Fred and George's product testing lab, and the place where the DA's enchanted Galleons burn hot with meeting times.
Gryffindor Tower is tense this year. The dormitory argument between Harry and Seamus poisons the air for weeks -- the room that was once Harry's first true home now holds a boy who thinks he's a liar. Fred and George test products on willing first-years in the common room. Hermione knits elf hats and leaves them hidden under rubbish, and the house-elves have started refusing to clean Gryffindor Tower because they keep accidentally freeing themselves. Ron's prefect duties pull him away. The enchanted Galleons sit in pockets, warming when Hermione sets the next DA meeting. Despite everything, the fireplace still crackles. Someone is always playing Exploding Snap. And when the common room is quiet and everyone else is asleep, it's still the place where Harry feels most like himself.
A round, cozy tower room hung with scarlet tapestries and furnished with squashy armchairs in crimson and gold. A large fireplace dominates one wall. The entrance is guarded by the Fat Lady in her pink silk dress. A notice board near the entrance is cluttered with Quidditch tryout sheets, prefect announcements, and -- if you know where to look -- coded messages. Spiral staircases lead to the dormitories.
