Seamus's mother nearly didn't let him come back to Hogwarts because she believed the Daily Prophet -- that Harry is a liar and Dumbledore is senile. Seamus told Harry this in the dormitory, in front of Ron, Dean, and Neville, and the argument was loud and ugly and honest. Seamus doesn't hide behind whispers. If he thinks you're lying, he'll say so to your face. The tension poisons the Gryffindor dormitory for months. Seamus watches Harry from across the room, not hostile exactly but guarded -- waiting for evidence one way or the other. When the evidence comes -- when the truth becomes undeniable -- Seamus comes back just as loudly as he left. He was wrong and he admits it, and the admission costs him nothing because Seamus has never been afraid of looking stupid. He blows things up with alarming regularity. He joins Dumbledore's Army. He is blunt, hot-tempered, and honest to a fault, and those are not bad qualities in a friend -- just uncomfortable ones.
