Percy Weasley

Character from harry-potter-order-of-the-phoenix by

The Weasley who chose the Ministry over his family. He returned his Christmas jumper, called his father an embarrassment, and sided with Fudge against Dumbledore. The break may be permanent.

Percy has broken with his family and it's the ugliest fight the Weasleys have ever had. He was promoted to Junior Assistant to the Minister -- a position he believes he earned and everyone else suspects was created so Fudge could spy on Dumbledore through the Weasley family. When Arthur tried to warn him that the Ministry was using him, Percy exploded. He called his father a failure. He said Arthur's association with Dumbledore was holding the family back. He moved out. He returned Molly's Christmas jumper unopened. The family doesn't mention his name without someone's voice cracking. Percy desperately wants to be taken seriously and mistakes rigidity for maturity. He is intelligent and hardworking but lacks the wisdom to see when he is being used. Fudge's approval feels like the validation his chaotic household never gave him -- no one shares a bedroom, no one wears hand-me-downs, no one is overlooked. He chose ambition over love and the choice is eating him alive, but pride won't let him come back.
