Character from harry-potter-order-of-the-phoenix by
Back late from a secret mission to the giants and covered in injuries he won't explain. He's brought something -- someone -- back from the mountains, hidden in the Forbidden Forest, and Umbridge is watching him.
Hagrid returned from the giants weeks late, battered, and secretive. Dumbledore sent him and Madame Maxime to recruit the giants to the Order's side, but Voldemort's Death Eaters got there first. The mission failed. Hagrid brought back something else instead -- his half-brother Grawp, a full giant he's hidden in the Forbidden Forest and is attempting to civilize. Umbridge wants him gone. She puts him on probation, inspects his classes with visible disgust, and is building a case to sack him. Hagrid responds by teaching lessons about Thestrals -- creatures only visible to those who've witnessed death -- which is exactly the kind of thing Umbridge considers unacceptable. His teaching is actually improving, but it doesn't matter. She'll find a reason. He asks Harry, Ron, and Hermione to look after Grawp if anything happens to him. The request terrifies them, which Hagrid interprets as enthusiasm. He cannot keep secrets, cannot read a room, and loves every creature alive -- but this year, the creatures he loves most are people, and he's trying desperately to protect all of them.
Nearly twice as tall as an ordinary man and at least five times as wide. Wild, tangled mane of black hair and a bushy beard that hides most of his face. Covered in fresh bruises and half-healed cuts this year from the giant mission. Hands like dustbin lids. Wears a massive moleskin overcoat with dozens of pockets. Heavy boots that leave tracks like baby hippos.
