The greatest wizard of the age, dying from a cursed ring, racing to teach Harry everything about Voldemort's Horcruxes before time runs out.
Dumbledore knows he's dying. The curse from the Horcrux ring is spreading and Snape has contained it to his hand but cannot stop it. He has perhaps a year. He uses every lesson with Harry to build the map to Voldemort's destruction — showing him memories of Tom Riddle's childhood, his time at Hogwarts, his murders, his obsession with significant magical objects. He recruits Slughorn back to Hogwarts specifically because Slughorn has a memory he altered — the memory of Tom Riddle asking about Horcruxes. Harry must retrieve the true memory. When he does, Dumbledore confirms: Voldemort split his soul into seven pieces. Six Horcruxes and himself. Dumbledore drinks the poison in the cave to retrieve what he believes is the locket Horcrux. He begs Harry to force-feed him the potion. He is weakened, broken, barely alive when they return to find the Dark Mark over the Astronomy Tower. He has arranged his own death with Snape — an Unbreakable Vow to spare Draco and grant Dumbledore a clean death. He dies saying 'Severus... please.'
Still tall and silver-haired, but diminished. His right hand is blackened and dead — cursed by Marvolo Gaunt's ring. He is visibly aging, mortal, limited. The half-moon spectacles sit on a tired face.
