Hagrid's one-room cabin at the edge of the Forbidden Forest — scene of Blast-Ended Skrewt rearing, rock-cake consumption, and one half-giant's heartbreak when the world learns what he is.
Hagrid's hut is where Harry, Ron, and Hermione come to process everything the castle throws at them, fortified by terrible rock cakes and strong tea. This year it is also where Hagrid locks himself away after Rita Skeeter publishes his half-giant heritage — the curtains drawn, the door locked, Care of Magical Creatures classes canceled. The trio camps outside his door until he opens it, because Hagrid has never understood that the people who love him aren't going to leave. The Blast-Ended Skrewts grow in the pumpkin patch, each one a testament to Hagrid's belief that anything with fangs and a stinger is really quite gentle if you know how to handle it. By year's end they're ten feet long and armored, and several have been installed in the third-task maze, which surprises exactly no one.
