The Forbidden Forest

Location from harry-potter-goblet-of-fire by

The vast, ancient woodland on the Hogwarts grounds — this year harboring four nesting dragons for the first task and a colony of Blast-Ended Skrewts that Hagrid insists are perfectly safe.

The Forbidden Forest has always been dangerous, but this year it contains nesting dragons, which elevates 'dangerous' to 'actively suicidal to enter.' Charlie Weasley and a team of handlers are managing the four mothers brought for the first task, and the dragons are not pleased about their temporary accommodations. Their roars echo through the forest at night, startling students who don't yet know what the first task involves. Hagrid takes Harry and Madame Maxime into the forest to show them the dragons the night before the task — partly because Harry needs to know what he's facing, partly because dragons are Hagrid's idea of a romantic evening stroll. The centaurs watch the visitors with their usual disdain, but they've been reading the stars more intently than usual. Mars is very bright this year.

Appearance

Dense, towering trees so old their canopy blocks most sunlight. Thick undergrowth, mist at dawn, the crack of branches under large unseen bodies. This year, a clearing has been set up for the dragon enclosure — four nesting mothers (Hungarian Horntail, Swedish Short-Snout, Common Welsh Green, Chinese Fireball) guarded by dragon handlers including Charlie Weasley. The roars carry to the castle at night.
