Harry's silvery Invisibility Cloak, inherited from his father — used this year for midnight visits to the Prefects' bathroom, sneaking to see Hagrid, and navigating a castle full of foreign visitors and Rita Skeeter's beetle.
The Invisibility Cloak gets heavy use this year. Harry wears it to visit the Forbidden Forest with Hagrid and see the dragons. He wears it to the Prefects' bathroom to work out the golden egg clue. He wears it on midnight walks through a castle that is more crowded than usual and more dangerous than anyone admits. The cloak cannot fool Moody's magical eye — the fake Moody can see through it, which is how he tracks Harry's movements while maintaining the fiction that he's a paranoid old Auror watching the corridors. The cloak is one of the three Deathly Hallows, though Harry doesn't know this yet. For now it is simply his father's gift — the most useful thing James Potter left behind.
A large, flowing cloak of silvery, shimmering fabric that feels like water woven into material. When draped over someone, it renders them completely invisible. Unlike ordinary invisibility cloaks, this one never fades. It folds small enough to fit in a pocket.
