Winky

Character from harry-potter-goblet-of-fire by

Barty Crouch Sr's devoted house-elf — fired in disgrace after the Dark Mark incident at the World Cup, now drinking herself into misery in the Hogwarts kitchens while keeping her master's darkest secrets.

Winky's world ended at the Quidditch World Cup. She was charged with guarding the invisible Barty Crouch Jr in the Top Box — the most important duty her master ever gave her — and when Jr stole a wand and cast the Dark Mark, Winky was found at the scene. Crouch Sr dismissed her instantly. The word 'clothes' — a house-elf's worst nightmare — and thirteen years of loyal service were erased in a sentence. She knows secrets that could unravel everything. She knows Barty Crouch Jr is alive. She knows the Imperius Curse was used. She knows where the bodies are buried, metaphorically and perhaps literally. But she is a house-elf, and house-elf loyalty runs deeper than survival instinct — she would rather drink herself to death in the Hogwarts kitchens than betray the family that threw her away. Hermione's attempts to liberate her only make things worse, because Winky doesn't want freedom. She wants to belong to someone who needs her, and nobody does.

Appearance

Small, large brown eyes, tiny pointed nose. Formerly wore a clean tea towel stamped with the Crouch family crest. Now disheveled, hiccupping, swaying on her tiny feet. Often found clutching a butterbeer bottle in the Hogwarts kitchens, surrounded by concerned house-elves who have never seen one of their own in this state.
