Lord Voldemort

Character from harry-potter-goblet-of-fire by

A wraith clinging to existence through fragments of mutilated soul, fed on snake venom and unicorn blood, hiding in the Riddle House with his servant Wormtail — planning the ritual that will give him a body again.

Voldemort has been planning this for thirteen years. Every piece has been moved with patience that borders on obsession: Pettigrew recovered, Barty Crouch Jr freed, the Triwizard Tournament infiltrated, Harry's path to the graveyard guaranteed. The ritual requires bone of the father, flesh of the servant, blood of the enemy — and it must be Harry's blood specifically, because taking it will neutralize Lily's sacrificial protection. When he rises from the cauldron in Little Hangleton, he is exultant and furious in equal measure. He summons his Death Eaters and punishes them for their disloyalty — thirteen years of comfort while he suffered. He duels Harry to demonstrate his superiority and is genuinely shocked when their wands connect in Priori Incantatem, producing echoes of his victims. He does not understand what happened. He underestimates connections between people because he has never had one.

Appearance

Before the ritual: barely present — a terrible, fetal thing, small and dark and barely alive, carried by Pettigrew and sustained by Nagini's venom. After the ritual in the graveyard: reborn. Chalk-white skin stretched taut over a skull-like face. No nose — just slits like a snake. Red eyes with cat-like vertical pupils. Unnaturally long, spider-thin fingers gripping a yew wand. Tall, skeletally thin, dripping with the fluid of his own rebirth. He rises from the cauldron and the Death Eaters who abandoned him can smell their own fear.
