Character from harry-potter-goblet-of-fire by
Head of the Department of International Magical Cooperation — rigid, rule-obsessed, and slowly unraveling. He sent his own son to Azkaban, secretly rescued him, lost control of him, and will be murdered by him.
Crouch Sr built his career on being harder on Dark wizards than anyone else. He authorized Aurors to use Unforgivable Curses against suspects during the first war. He sent his own son to Azkaban without apparent hesitation, and it was this act — more than anything else — that nearly made him Minister for Magic. But he rescued Barty Jr at his dying wife's request, keeping his son hidden under an Invisibility Cloak and the Imperius Curse for years, with only Winky the house-elf to guard him. The Quidditch World Cup was the beginning of the end — Barty Jr fought the Imperius Curse, stole a wand, cast the Dark Mark. And now Crouch Sr is under the Imperius himself, controlled by Voldemort through his own son, stumbling through duties he can barely perform. He is being used as a puppet by the child he imprisoned and rescued and failed in every possible way.
Toothbrush mustache, ramrod straight posture, impeccably neat suit. Sharp, cold eyes. Military bearing. As the year progresses: increasingly gaunt, disheveled, missing from events where he should be present. In his final days — when he appears on the Hogwarts grounds — he is wild-eyed, babbling, speaking to trees, and begging to see Dumbledore.
