4 Privet Drive

Location from harry-potter-deathly-hallows by

The Dursleys' perfectly ordinary house where Harry spent ten miserable years -- he leaves for the last time at seventeen, and Dudley's farewell is the most unexpected kindness of the story's opening.

The blood protection Dumbledore placed here ends when Harry turns seventeen or leaves permanently. The Battle of the Seven Potters -- thirteen members of the Order on broomsticks and thestrals, seven of them Polyjuiced to look like Harry -- begins from this house. Mad-Eye Moody dies in the escape. Hedwig is killed. George loses an ear. The plan is blown because Voldemort knows the real departure date. Before the Order arrives, Dudley Dursley leaves tea outside Harry's door and tells him he doesn't think he's a waste of space. It is the smallest gesture and the most Dudley has ever given, and it means more than either of them will ever say.

Appearance

Neat, unremarkable detached house on a street of identical houses. Trimmed lawn, clean windows. The cupboard under the stairs. The bars on the bedroom window, long removed. Empty now -- the Dursleys have been evacuated by the Order.
