The wizarding village under Death Eater patrol -- Caterwauling Charms trigger if anyone breaks curfew, and Aberforth's Hog's Head is the last safe building in town.
Harry Apparates into Hogsmeade and immediately triggers the Caterwauling Charm. Death Eaters swarm. Aberforth pulls them into the Hog's Head and covers for them, claiming his goat Patronus was what triggered the alarm. He feeds them, berates them, tells them the truth about Dumbledore, and then opens the passage to the Room of Requirement through Ariana's portrait. Hogsmeade under occupation is the wizarding world in miniature: everything that was warm and good -- butterbeer, Honeydukes, weekend visits -- strangled by fear and enforcement. The Three Broomsticks is watched. Zonko's is closed. Only Aberforth keeps the light on.
Shuttered, dark village under curfew. Death Eaters patrol the streets. A Caterwauling Charm screams if anyone appears after dark. The Hog's Head pub -- dirty, quiet, Aberforth behind the bar -- is the only safe haven. The passage from behind Ariana's portrait leads to the Room of Requirement.
