The Great Hall

Location from harry-potter-deathly-hallows by

The heart of Hogwarts -- where students were sorted, feasts were held, and after the battle, the dead were laid in rows while the living sat beside them and wept.

The Great Hall served as the staging ground for the battle's aftermath. The dead were carried here -- Fred, Lupin, Tonks, Colin Creevey, fifty others. Families gathered around their loved ones. The Weasleys clustered around Fred's body. Molly held his hand. George sat and didn't speak. Harry walked through the hall under his Invisibility Cloak and saw all of it -- every death his war had caused. The final duel between Harry and Voldemort happened here, with the whole school watching. Harry explained the Elder Wand's true allegiance. Voldemort fired Avada Kedavra. The wand refused to kill its master. The curse rebounded. Voldemort fell. The hall erupted.

Appearance

A cavernous stone hall with an enchanted ceiling mirroring the sky. Four house tables, a raised staff dais. After the battle: tables pushed aside, the dead laid in rows on the floor. The enchanted ceiling shows the dawn.
