Cloak of Invisibility

Item from harry-potter-deathly-hallows by

The third Deathly Hallow -- Harry's father's cloak, the one that protects rather than destroys. The only Hallow Harry keeps. The one Death gave to the wisest brother.

The Cloak passed from Ignotus Peverell through centuries of descendants to James Potter and then to Harry. It concealed Harry during the escape from Privet Drive, during the infiltration of the Ministry, and during the Battle of Hogwarts. He wore it when he walked through the Great Hall seeing the dead, when he descended into the forest to die. Of the three Hallows, Harry keeps only this one. The Elder Wand he returns to Dumbledore's tomb. The Resurrection Stone he drops in the forest. The Cloak he keeps because it was his father's, because it protects without demanding anything in return, and because the story says the third brother hid from Death until old age, then greeted Death as an old friend. Harry is the third brother.
