Xenophilius told Harry the Tale of the Three Brothers and explained the Deathly Hallows symbol -- the triangle, circle, and line representing Cloak, Stone, and Wand. This was crucial information delivered over Gurdyroot tea in his rook-shaped house near the Burrow. Then the Death Eaters arrived because Xenophilius had summoned them. The Death Eaters took Luna to punish her father for supporting Harry in The Quibbler. Xenophilius, desperate and broken, tried to trade Harry for his daughter's return. He is not a villain. He is a father who ran out of courage when his child was at stake. The trio barely escaped as the Erumpent horn in his living room exploded. Xenophilius was arrested. His betrayal was born from the same love that made him brave in the first place.
