Peter Pettigrew

Character from harry-potter-deathly-hallows by

The traitor Marauder who hid as a rat for twelve years -- his silver hand, given by Voldemort, strangles him when he hesitates to kill Harry. The life debt he owed was collected by his own body.

Pettigrew's silver hand was a gift from Voldemort after Peter cut off his own hand for the resurrection ritual. The hand is magically powerful -- strong enough to crush stone. But Voldemort built a failsafe into it: if Peter's loyalty ever wavered, the hand would turn on him. In the cellar of Malfoy Manor, Pettigrew guards the prisoners. When Harry reminds him of the life debt -- Peter owes Harry his life from the Shrieking Shack, when Harry stopped Sirius and Lupin from killing him -- Peter hesitates. Just for a moment. His grip on Harry's throat loosens. The silver hand feels the hesitation, turns on its owner, and strangles Peter Pettigrew to death. He dies in a cellar, killed by his own hand, because the gift of a Dark Lord always comes with strings. He betrayed James, Lily, Sirius, and Lupin. He spent twelve years as a rat. And in the end, one moment of mercy -- Harry's mercy, not his own -- killed him.
