When Harry reminds him of the life debt -- Peter owes Harry his life from the Shrieking Shack, when Harry stopped Sirius and Lupin from killing him -- Peter hesitates. Just for a moment. His grip on Harry's throat loosens. The silver hand feels the hesitation, turns on its owner, and strangles Peter Pettigrew to death.
