Lupin tried to abandon Tonks and baby Teddy because he genuinely believed his child would be better off fatherless than with a werewolf father. Harry called him a coward for it -- one of the harshest things Harry has ever said to anyone -- and Lupin left Grimmauld Place white-faced and furious. He went home. He stayed. He fought in the Battle of Hogwarts and died alongside Tonks. Their bodies lay side by side in the Great Hall. He is the last Marauder -- James, Sirius, Peter, and now Remus, all gone. He appeared to Harry as a shade summoned by the Resurrection Stone in the Forbidden Forest, smiling, telling Harry he was sorry he would never know Teddy, asking Harry to tell his son that his father died trying to make a world where Teddy could live a happier life. He is the gentlest person in the series and the one most damaged by what he is. His boggart was the full moon. His greatest fear was the monster he became. In the end he chose to face both.
Prematurely grey-brown hair, lined face, tired eyes. Thin, shabby, patched robes. Faint scars across face and hands from transformations. A kind, slightly sad smile. Looks older than he is but carries a new intensity since becoming a father.
